Consolidation Update: September 19, 2012

Recent items from the Consolidation Action Team:

  • The Strategic Planning Council is in the process of evaluating goals and objectives prior to circulating a first draft of the proposed plan for feedback.
  • Reviewed feedback from the Consolidation Working Group on the draft prospectus, and recommended additional revisions. Final draft to be sent to SACS COC no later than October 1.
  • Received updates on efforts to unify the HR employee records system. Process is well underway.
  • Received updates on space planning. The facilities team is on track to provide a plan by early December.

  1. Given that a consolidated university is what we’re going to get, despite whether or not anyone here wants it, the name “Georgia Regents University” is a perfectly HORRIBLE NAME choice.

    “Georgia Regents University” alludes neither to the location of, nor to the mission of neither the GHSU component nor the ASU component of the consolidated university. Both institutions completely lose any sense of personality with this name.

    What does the word “Regents” add to the name?… Absolutely nothing. If anything, it significantly detracts from, rather than adding to. Most people won’t even know what it refers to, thereby causing confusion as to what the entity, it should be describing, actually is.

    Come on, Board of Regents, reconsider your choice of names.
