Research Technology Transfer work team report for Nov. 16th

The TT/RATT team (Chris McKinney, Kim Gray, Sarah White), assisted by Lee Little and Alana Kyriakakis, has been discussing the draft IP policy along with three additional policies assigned since the October update (Proprietary Control of Photography, Videography and Artistic Design; Guidelines for Authorship; Ownership and Retention of Scholarly Research Records).

Research OHRP/IRB work team report for Nov. 16th

OHRP:  Office of Human Research Protection
IRB:  Institutional Review Boards

  • IRB Leadership meeting with Dr. Mulloy, Institutional Official and all IRB Chairs and Vice-Chairs has been established as a monthly meeting to address consistency across all IRBs
  • ASU IRB Chair providing weekly status report of ASU IRB approved studies
  • GHSU-OHRP and ASU IRB Chair met with the College of Education during their scheduled faculty meeting to discuss the GRU Augusta Social/Behavioral IRB (IRB B)
  • Invitations have been sent to potential IRB B members
  • Weekly meetings with GHSU-OHRP and ASU IRB Chair scheduled
  • Requested funding for the temp position to assist with IRB B implementation
  • Developing training materials for IRB B members, faculty, staff, and students
  • Contacting ASU Deans and Department Chairs to set-up training with respective faculty and staff regarding the GRU Augusta Human Subjects Research Protection Program and IRB Review Process

 

Research: OHRP/IRB Work Team Update

  • GHSU-OHRP provided on-site training at ASU regarding the Human Subjects Research Protection Program and IRB Process for GRU.  Due to low attendance (only 3 ASU attendees), the training has been revamped to focus on schools and departments.
  • ASU IRB Chair has granted GHSU access to the ASU CITI page.
  • ASU IRB Chair has been granted access to the eIRB training environment to begin reviewing the Social/Behavioral IRB forms.
  • GHSU OHRP has requested funding for a temporary position to assist with IRB B (Social/Behavioral IRB) implementation.
  • IRB Members for IRB have been identified and will be contacted between 10/24-11/9 regarding membership.
  • An IRB B member training plan has been identified and will be implemented in November and December.
  • Draft IRB policy regarding Student Research and Classroom Projects has been reviewed and discussed with the OHRP/IRB Consolidation Work Team.
  • Developing training materials for IRB B members, faculty, staff, and students

Research Work Teams Update

Clinical Research Work Team

  • Since there were no offices to consolidate, this team’s primary deliverable is training for ASU once the consolidation is complete.

Lab Animal Services Work Team

  • Completing SOP edits to incorporate ASU procedures.
  • Communicating with ASU faculty (animal users) to discuss what additional surgical procedures and animal use locations would need to be added to the eSirius software. 
  • Incorporating the additional species into the eSirius program.

Office of Human Research Protection/IRB Work Team

  • ASU’s IRB developed inventory of active protocols (protocols approved within the last year).
  • ASU’s IRB required all active human subjects researchers to complete CITI by May 31, 2012.
  • Reviewing new IRBs, membership, and requirements.
  • ASU reviewed GHSU policies to determine if there are additional items needed to address student research.
  • Holding monthly Brown-Bag Sessions on The Consolidated IRB for ASU faculty, staff, and students.
  • ASU IRB Chair reviewing the eIRB Social/Behavioral Smart Forms and prepare a template to be used during the Fall 2012 semester for IRB applications.
  • GHSU OHRP provided ASU IRB Chair the administrative analysis intake checklists used by GHSU’s IRB.
  • ASU IRB Chair reviewing the activities of the faculty to determine if there is any research being conducted that has not been accounted for.
  • GHSU’s OHRP benchmarking with other IRBs to provide feedback to the work team regarding IRB review of student projects.

Technology Transfer Work Team

  • Working with Legal to develop a melded IP policy that is fully consistent with Board of Regents IP policy.

Sponsored Programs Pre- & Post-Award Work Teams

  • Teams continue to meet on a weekly basis with new AVP of Research Administration.
  • New grant opportunity database being tested.
  • Developing goals, strategies and benchmarks for strategic plan.
  • Developing employee training for new ASU employee to understand procedures and processes.
